Dear Colleagues,
Boston 2009 was the largest World Glaucoma Congress to date. In all, 2666
participants from over 90 countries attended the meeting. The regional
breakdown of attendees included Europe
(36%) Asia
(25%) North America
(22%) South and Central America
(13%) Africa (3%) and Australia
(1%). The fact that almost 4 out of 5 attendees came from outside the host
continent reflects the truly global nature of the Congress and the World
Glaucoma Association.
The scientific program of the meeting, co-chaired by Dennis Lam, Jeff
Liebmann, Choka Melamed and Joel Schuman was very well received. The Local
Organizing Committee co-chaired by Lou Pasquale and David Greenfield and
including Teresa Chen, Paul Cottran, Tom Hutchinson, Cindie Mattox, Doug
Rhee, Brad Shingleton and Martin Wand provided a most hospitable
atmosphere. The venue was superb. Robert Langer a noted biomedical inventor
at MIT and Robert Merton a Nobel Prize winning economist from Harvard Business School,
gave extraordinary keynote presentations. Plans are underway for the next
World Glaucoma Congress which will be hosted by the European Glaucoma
Society in 2011. |
